We've got spirit, yes we do!
We've got spirit, how 'bout you?!

Thus spoke the mighty KJCL, preserving an ancient rite shrouded in mystery: the challenge.

There is a subspecies of homo sapiens called "Jaysea Ellers," though the name is often reduced to "JCLers." Each summer, they select a few from their masses to make a pilgrimage to a designated part of the country. No one is quite sure of the selection process. It has been speculated that it is a voluntary commitment. Most likely, this is not any form of migration, because the "JCLers" head a different direction every year. In 1998, herds were tracked heading Northeast, in 1999, Southeast, and after years of careful study, scientists have concurred in their predictions that the "JCLers" will most likely move to the midwest in 2000, and to the west coast in 2001.

When at this convention, the JCLers perform a morning ritual, where they gather in a single room and cry out to other states. It has been observed that as far as romance, "JCLers" are usually more interested in members of the opposite sex from other states than their own. Could these "cheers" be some sort of mating call? The next lines of the challenge seem to fit this hypothesis: "We've got more! We've got more!" repeated at increasing volume until it is clear that one state has prevailed. This type of dominance competition has been noted in the wild in species of all types when it is time for courtship.

Some of the cheers of the "JCLers" from Kansas have been carefully monitored, deciphered, and recorded:

The Kansans frantically shook signs while chanting. The signs were as follows:
1: Front: K Back: R
2: Front: J Back: O
3: Front: C Back: C
4: Front: L Back: K
5: Front:
! Back: S

(Sign 1) K
(Sign 2) J
(Sign 3) C
(Signs 4,5) L
KJCL (flip all signs) Rocks!

Leader: Give me a K! (1) Group: We've got your K, we've got your K, we've got your K (dance) [Repeat for all 4 letters, adding signs] Leader: Now, what does that spell? All: KJCL!

K-A-KAN-KAN, SAS
(1) Kansas
(2,3,4,5) JCL!

(1,2,3,4 flipped, 5=!)
Rock chalk, Kansas!

The strange behaviors of the KJCLers were again observed at Oklahoma University in 2000:

Let's get
a little bit rowdy
KJCL
Kansas

We are the Kansans, my friend
and we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the Kansans, we are the Kansans
No time for losers
'cause we are the Kansans
of JCL

Leader, then group repeat:
I don't know but I've been told
Kansas cheers are really bold
I don't know but I've heard say
Kansas is gonna rock GA
Kansas
JCL
All:
KJCL, Kansas
Rock on!

K
KS
Kansas JCL
we are the

We are the Kansans, the mighty mighty Kansans
Wherever we go, people wanna know
who we are, so we tell them

Hey, hey, we're not done
Come on down and have some fun
S'obvious to everyone
That KJCL's number 1
